About
Environment America has one mission: to protect the natural world.
We advocate ideas and actions to guide our country onto a greener, healthier path. Our network of 30 state environmental groups promotes clean air, clean water, clean energy, wildlife and open spaces, and a livable climate. Our members put grassroots support behind our research, public education, advocacy and litigation.
Nothing is more important to our future than facing this fact: Infinite economic growth on a finite planet is neither wise nor possible. We must shift from deplete to preserve, from disposable to sustainable, from “never enough” to “enough.” Together, our staff, members and other supporters are committed to winning changes that allow nature to thrive and our children to live healthier, more enriching lives.
Our approach
Each of our campaigns shares a common approach, which includes:
Putting the environment front and center. We understand that a clean environment is not a mere by-product of our prosperity. Rather, a clean environment is the necessary precondition for a true and lasting prosperity.
Winning hearts and minds. Our research and public education seek to build broad support for specific actions to protect the land, air, water and wildlife that sustain and enrich all of our lives.
A strategic approach. Progress is made one step at a time. Compromise is often necessary to achieve concrete improvements in the quality of the environment and people’s lives.
Our approach delivers results, including growth in solar and wind power, cleaner air, reduced global warming pollution and cuts in single-use plastics. We study which policies work, how they can be improved and what it takes to build public support for them. And we’re open to new ideas that could work even better.

Working together
Throughout all of our work, we endeavor to unite all Americans on behalf of a cleaner, greener country.
Our advocates build coalitions that include people from all walks of life — business owners, farmers, doctors and nurses, religious leaders, first-responders and concerned citizens. Our organizers and canvassers engage members and activists in all 50 states. Our advocates in Washington, D.C., work with members of Congress from both parties.
